Off topic and the NCAA's

Haven't been posting much; life gets in the way. I have started a WikiFray Wiki, which I thought might house things like a FAQ, member profiles, and maybe a Fray history. Stay tuned...

On with thoughts on the NCAA's....

  • My prediction: Texas over Florida.

  • I am officially among the Duke haters.

Thing is, growing up I liked Duke -- Mark Alarie, Johnny Dawkins, Danny Ferry, Christian Laettner, Grant Hill, Bobby Hurley, Wojo, Chris Collins, Coach K. I don't know if it's me or Dukle that changed, but watching them lose to VCU last night, I couldn't help but think, "what a bunch of whiny bitches!" It seemed like they were expecting VCU to just roll over and let them win because they're Duke, and were shocked that they actually pressed them and stuff. I was rooting full-on for VCU by the end.

  • Don't know if it's me or him, but I found Bill Simmons's diary to be funnier than anything I've read from him in a long time. I think someone must have given him the green light to go after announcers, because he doesn't seem to be pulling his punches anymore. Either that, or he doesn't care anymore. \

I do think it's far past time to replace Billy Packer with a new lead analyst. As I've said before, we've had John Madden, Tim McCarver, and Billy Packer in these spots for pretty much my entire sports-watching life. Haven't they said everything there is to say?

  • Other than the VCU-Duke game, a pretty dull day. Let's hope today is more exciting.

Simmons -- funny because his humor is that of an extended college roommate jam session, and he was hanging out with his roommates.

When he tries to be a journalist, not as great (still better than most). But when he's screaming at the TV, that's comedy. His mailbags and his running diary of the NBA draft were amazing.

August,

Right, and he was jamming on things that resonate with his readers, or at least this particular readers.

When he's jamming on things like how crappy the accommodations are at the Super Bowl in Jacksonville, he kind of misses the target.

I'll also mention that I used the MMOD service at home yesterday to watch some games on the Web, and was amazed what I could see with my seven-year old Windows 98 Dell box that wasn't top of the line when I bought it.

These are the days of miracle and wonder...
